Orchardleigh Estate Leases, 1571-1823

After the dissolution of the monasteries by Henry VIII the Manor of St Katherine was bought by the CHAMPNEYS family of Orchardleigh. They thus owned the Trinity area as this was developed from the later 17th century as well as property on the Orchardleigh side of Frome, including the separate part of the Parish of Marston Bigot around Spring Gardens.

Leases from the Orchardleigh Estate are held at Somerset Record Office. Alma Bacon has kindly transcribed the Frome Society for Local Study index to Bundles 1-14. They are listed in by surname. The reference numbers can be used to find the originals.
